Yavapai county Sheriff and Lopez family to attend events honoring FAllen YCSO Sgt. Rick Lopez in Washington D.C.

 

PRESCOTT, ARIZONA (May 9, 2023) – Sheriff David Rhodes, a contingent of sheriff’s deputies and the Lopez family will be attending the National Law Enforcement Memorial events in Washington D.C. this Thursday through next Wednesday (May 11-May 17) as part of National Police Week.

 

During Police Week, there will be a candlelight vigil on Saturday evening 8 pm EST on the National Mall, where Sgt. Lopez’s name will be read out along with all other officers whose names will tragically be engraved on the Fallen Law Enforcement Memorial this year.   The event will be live streamed on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.  You can find the links here:

There will also be a memorial service at the site of the Memoria Wall on Monday beginning at noon EST to honor those fallen officers killed in the line of duty in 2022, as well as all who came before.  556 new names were added to the Memorial  in 2023, bringing the total to 23,785 (1838-2022).

 

Sgt. Richard “RLo” Lopez was killed on June 28, 2022 while trying to apprehend a suspect who shot him during the arrest.  The defendant, Robert McDowell, is being charged with First Degree Murder.
