BUSY WEEKEND WITH SOME HORRIBLE ACCIDENTS IN YAVAPAI COUNTY

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office had another busy weekend.  Please see the synopsis of events below.

PRESCOTT ARIZONA (March 20, 2023) –

  1. Friday morning March 17, 2023, YCSO deputies assisted Chino Valley PD on the scene of a fatal pedestrian vs/ vehicle accident on Highway 89 near road 4S.  An elderly woman with a history of dementia wandered away from her residence and was struck in the middle of the highway by a motorist traveling southbound resulting in her death.
  2. Also on Friday, all hands were on deck, to rescue a family of four who had been swept down Oak Creek while attempting to cross Mormon Crossing in Cornville and found themselves stuck in swift and flooded waters.  With the help of YCSO, Verde Valley Fire, Copper Canyon Fire, Department of Public Safety, and the US Forest Service, Sedona Fire personnel successfully recovered all parties unharmed.
  3. Saturday evening, March 18, Deputies were dispatched to the report of a single vehicle motorcycle accident on Big Chino Road east of Naples in Paulden involving a father (driver) and adult son (passenger). Once Deputies arrived on scene, fire and medical personnel was treating the father (driver) for head injuries and the uninjured son was standing by.  Unfortunately, while medical professionals were loading the father into the helicopter for transport his condition worsened and he eventually succumbed to his injuries.

We are expecting more stormy weather this week on Tuesday and Wednesday in Yavapai County with the potential for more flooding.  Water level predictions for the Verde River are significantly less than last week, however, Oak Creek will likely have similar conditions to that which we saw last week. YCSO wants to remind community members to use alternative routes to avoid getting washed away and/or stuck in swift water conditions and flooding.  Please sign up for Everbridge® to receive emergency notifications for your area so that you and your family can be prepared.    Everbridge CAS
