Friday April 7
- MAN DIES DURING BIKING TRIP IN SEDONA WITH HIS TWO TEENAGE SONS
At approximately 1 pm on Friday afternoon, YCSO received a call from Sedona Fire that a 53-year-old male subject was not breathing on a trail near Devils Bridge in Sedona. Four YCSO deputies responded immediately. While enroute, they contacted Verde Search and Rescue (SAR) to assist Sedona Fire.
Sedona Fire was able to get to the subject from the Dry Creek Vista trail head in a UTV and learned that he had his two sons, ages 14 and 15, who with him as well. The boys reported that their father was complaining of chest pains about a half mile before he fell off his bike and began not breathing. Soon after deputies arrived, the male was pronounced deceased. The two sons were transported to the trail head by Sedona Fire, and the father was recovered by the Verde SAR team.
The boys were visiting from Utah but had an uncle in the Phoenix area that deputies were able to contact until their mother could get to Prescott. The name of the deceased is not yet being released.
In a show of compassion and caring indicative of the wonderful YCSO personnel, three of the deputies in order to make sure the boys were not alone during the tragic time, took them to a local restaurant for pizza and waited with them until their uncle arrived.
- YCSO RESPONDS TO POSSIBLE MURDER/SUICIDE IN ASHFORK
At approximately 9 am YCSO deputies responded to a call in which two people were reportedly dead in Ashfork. Deputies arrived, secured the scene, and conducted interviews with numerous people. It appeared the suspect, 58-year-old Richard Proctor shot his estranged wife, 44-year-old Jessica Proctor, before killing himself. According to reports, there were multiple witnesses to the shooting. The victim was the manager of the Family Dollar. YCSO Criminal detectives are conducting the investigation. No further details are yet available.
- FAMILY FIGHTS AND AGGRAVATED ASSAULTS
YCSO deputies responded to three family fights – all resulting in felony assault charges and one DUI.
Congress: One call involved a husband and wife in Congress who had orders of protection against one another. The husband allegedly assaulted the wife, and she was subsequently taken to the hospital for examination. The husband was booked for assault and the wife was cited and released for violating the protection order.
Village of Oak Creek: Another call involved a physical altercation between a husband and wife outside of Red Chopsticks restaurant in the Village of Oak Creek. According to witness statements, the husband knocked the wife to the ground and repeatedly hit her head on the pavement, and she became unconscious. He then tried to leave the area in his vehicle, but the multiple reporting parties refused to let him leave. He was arrested and booked on felony charges. The wife was transported to VVMC for medical treatment.
Cottonwood: YCSO Deputies responded to a fight where a male and his girlfriend, both of Cottonwood, had gotten into a verbal altercation. A friend who was at their camp site tried to separate them but the boyfriend allegedly forced the girlfriend into a vehicle and left the area. Deputies found them crashed into a tree a half mile from the camp site. The male was booked on Assault and DUI related charges.
Saturday April 8
DEAD BODY FOUND BY HIKERS IN BADGER SPRINGS
On Saturday afternoon, YCSO deputies responded to the report of a dead body located approximately 1 mile east of I-17 near mile marker 254. A DPS Trooper was originally contacted by 3 females hiking in the area. The females stated they observed a body in a watering hole nearby. DPS responded and confirmed the subject was deceased.
Deputies arrived soon after and observed the deceased subject was partially submerged in the water/mud. The subject was also completely nude; however, personal items were located near the watering hole as well as possible other physical evidence. Due to the suspicious nature of the incident YCSO Criminal detectives were notified and are still investigating. As of now the subject is unidentified.
Sunday April 9
PEDESTRIAN KILLED IN SEMI-TRUCK COLLISION
YCSO deputies responded to a report of a pedestrian who has been hit by a Semi-truck on I-40 west bound in the area of mile post 141. When deputies arrived, it was determined that the pedestrian was deceased. A video from the Semi-truck driver showed the victim standing in the middle of street at the time of impact. DPS responded and took over the investigation. Any further inquiries should be directed to DPS.
