The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office is once again warning county residents to be aware of another phone call scam, with the caller impersonating someone from YCSO. In recent days, the agency has received more than a dozen reports of phone calls to citizens informing them that they have a warrant out for their arrest, and they need to provide money to prevent being taken to jail.

The scam caller has used the name of someone who actually works for YCSO (for example, "Sergeant" Scott Joy or "Captain" Jeff Newnum), and the caller ID on your phone may fraudulently include the Sheriff's Office, but at a number not associated with our agency. One message demanded the citizen return the call to 928-224-2429, extension 4. That number has no association with YCSO and should not be called.

YCSO wants all citizens to know that we will NEVER call you to ask for any type of payment over the phone for any reason, including a citation or other arrest issue. If you receive such a call, hang up immediately and call our Fraud Investigations Dept. at 928-771-3299. Never give out any personal or financial information over the phone. DON'T BECOME A VICTIM OF FRAUDS AND SCAMS.

YCSO has a "Frauds and Scams" presentation available to community groups, adult care homes, and others who may be interested. You may call Ron Norfleet at 928-771-3299 for more information on this program.
