In Disney’s 1981 Classic “The Fox and the Hound”, there was the refrain “I’d rather have a dog than a dollar”. On March 6, that came true for the family of former Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) K-9 Deputy Travis Hartman.

The county Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the sale of Haddie to the Hartman family for a buck. Hartman is now a YCSO detective, but he was Haddie’s handler for several years until her January 21st retirement. His daughter, Audrey, handed Supervisors Chairman Craig Brown a crisp $1 bill, securing her beloved pooch for good.

Sheriff David Rhodes told the Supervisors Hartman and Haddie were instrumental in several big drug busts. During her career, Haddie was involved in the seizures of more than 50,000 fentanyl pills and 200 pounds of methamphetamine, among other narcotics.

She and deputy Hartman were honored by the Federal Drug Enforcement Federation’s Arizona chapter as “Outstanding Criminal Interdictor”.
