YCSO REPORTS BUSY WEEKEND WITH DISASTERS AVERTED

PRESCOTT ARIZONA (January 30, 2023) –Wildland Fire in Paulden Quickly Contained

On Saturday January 28, 2023, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) Deputies responded the report of a wildland fire in Paulden. The initial report stated a burn pile got out of control and grew to 2 acres. Thanks to the quick action of nearby neighbors who used hand tools and a tractor, as well as the swift response from fire personnel, the fire was quickly contained.  The fire grew to about 5 acres but fortunately no structures were damaged and only a small number of tools and equipment on an adjacent property were affected.

Deputies later discovered that this was one of several fires originated from the same property/homeowner over the past few years and proceeded to educate and cite them for their actions.  Thanks to all those involved in containing this potentially dangerous situation.

YCSO and the Buckeye Police Department worked together to avert a potential tragedy

Yesterday morning, YCSO, with the help of Buckeye Police Department, was able to successfully prevent a tragedy from occurring. After YCSO deputies received a notification from Buckeye PD to look for a woman amid a mental health crisis with two children in her car, ages 9 and 10, they were able to locate the car on Dugas Road near I17. YCSO Deputies assisted the woman out of the car and opened the trunk to find both children safe and sound. The kids were separated and placed in patrol cars to get warm while they were interviewed.   The woman displayed serious signs of a mental health crisis and resources were dispatched as well as the Department of Child Services (DCS) to take custody of the kids. Our deputies are currently following up with DCS to determine if any potential child abuse crimes occurred. YCSO would like to thank Buckeye PD's Sgt Brown and Granniss for their help with getting this case handled quickly and efficiently as well as our deputies for their quick thinking that prevented what could have been a horrible tragedy from occurring.
