YCSO PRESENTS INFORMATION ON NEW DETENTION CENTER TO BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

COTTONWOOD, ARIZONA (June 21, 2023) – The Yavapai County Board of Supervisors heard a presentation today from the Sheriff’s Office about the construction, opening, and staffing of the new Prescott Detention Center. The presentation included a description of the phased in approach to opening the new detention center and the staff that would be needed for each phase.

As part of the presentation, the Sheriff’s Office staff discussed current recruitment efforts for hiring detention officers and challenges that the agency, as well as other agencies around the country, are facing. Outlined were efforts including a hiring bonus at $5000 which is not only for detention officers but patrol deputies and 911 dispatchers as well.

The Prescott Detention Center, which is part of the Yavapai Criminal Justice Center on Prescott Lakes Parkway, celebrated a grand opening ceremony last week that was attended by a few hundred people who received tours of the detention center, court, and Connection Center. YCSO will be hosting more public tours of the detention facility in early July prior to the jail formally opening in mid-July. However, definitive dates have not yet been set.

Information about the Prescott Detention Center, including frequently asked questions and a copy of the presentation to the Board of Supervisors will be on the Sheriff’s website at YCSOaz.gov.
