The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office has 13 new Detention Officers following their graduation Feb 29th from the training academy in Prescott.
Sheriff David Rhodes presented the new Detention deputies with their badges, and he commended them for choosing a promising new career with YCSO. The Sheriff, now in his 30th year with the agency after starting as a teenager, told the graduates "above all you need to treat with respect all of those you come in contact with, and guarantee their Constitutional rights will be protected."
Academy Class Leader Caleb Dillashaw also spoke to the group and expressed his appreciation for the honor and for serving with his fellow graduates. The dozen who graduated with him were Aaron Arellano, Cali Bessert, Aaron Hayft, Jesus Hurtado, Aidan Lenta, Ivan Maldonado, Peter Marsala, Owen Martin, Eduardo Mirabal, Zack Radtke, Derreck Ta, and Robert Taylor.
Sheriff Rhodes has said he is pleased with the interest generated recently in coming to work for YCSO. "Young people are coming back to law enforcement", he said. The agency has cut its vacancies from 120 to about 40 in recent months. One benefactor is the new jail facility in Prescott, which is now scheduled to be fully operational by mid-March.
