The Yavapai Detention Academy (YDA) is holding a Food Drive in Prescott and the Verde Valley.

The training academy for incoming Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) detention officers is asking county residents to donate non-perishable food items February 5-15 at six different locations throughout the county, including the Prescott Sheriff’s Office main lobby at 255 E Gurley St, the Prescott Detention Facility at 1200 Prescott Lakes Parkway (East of Hwy 89), and the Verde Detention Facility at 2830 N Commonwealth Dr in Camp Verde.

Donations can also be dropped off at Infinity Uniforms and Tactical Gear in the Prescott Pine Ridge Marketplace on Gateway Blvd, Hunter’s Choice Archery at 8708 Hwy 69 in Prescott Valley, and Low Places Bar & Grill at 564 Main St in Camp Verde.

“We feel these charity events are a very important part of our academy because they connect our recruits and officers to the community we serve and protect. They also help fill a vital need to the people of our county,” said YCSO Recruit Training Officer Sergio Romero.

The donations collected during this food drive will be equally divided between the Prescott Community Cupboard Food Bank and the Camp Verde Parkside Community Church Food Pantry. Past YDA charity events have included the 2023 “Help for our Heroes”, which collected clothing and personal items for veterans in need, as well as activities to help special needs children.

The current YDA class will graduate on February 29, 2024.
