Recently in Yavapai County, we have had fires that required evacuation notices. Add to that, the start of what appears to be an active monsoon season with some heavy rains and flash flooding potential and you have a recipe for emergency alerts at any time.
YCSO strongly urges everyone in our county to take time today to make sure you are registered for emergency notifications from the Smart911 / RAVE system. It only takes a few minutes. Go to smart911.com, create an account and list how you want to be notified (phone call, text, email or any combination). Make sure to choose the agencies you want to receive alerts from (your local law enforcement, Yavapai County Office of Emergency Management (YCOEM), etc.). Put as much information as possible in your smart911 profile to help first responders (including medical issues for anyone in the residence).
For those in Yavapai County, we also strongly urge everyone to KNOW YOUR ZONE in the Genasys system. Go to protect.genasys.com, enter your address, find out your zone #, and write it down and keep it handy. These specific zones are part of the emergency notifications that are sent out.
Smartphone apps are available for download for both Smart911 and Genasys to better help you keep track of any emergency.
Don't forget that Fire Restrictions are still in effect all over Yavapai County. You can go to yavapaiready.gov to find out more.
Prepare today for any emergency. You never know when it will happen. YCSO wants everyone to stay safe.
