One YCSO Patrol Squad Credited With 3 Lifesaving Responses in August

Yavapai County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) deputies prove that no matter the crisis, they are always ready to answer the call. In August 2026, quick-thinking deputies jumped into action to preserve life in three harrowing emergencies in the Mayer and Dewey areas.

It was late in August when deputies rushed to a home for an unresponsive child, who had no known prior health issues. Finding the toddler actively seizing with a completely blocked airway and lockjaw, a deputy resourcefully cleared the airway so the toddler could breathe before being airlifted to the hospital in stable condition for advanced care.

On August 25th, arriving before medics at an accidental shooting in Spring Valley, a deputy found a man suffering from a severe gunshot wound to the pelvis. Staying calm under extreme circumstances, he immediately applied heavy, direct pressure to the wound to stem the massive bleeding, stabilizing him for a life-saving helicopter flight. No criminal element was discovered in this accidental shooting.

Prior to these, on August 11th, Deputies were called out for a welfare check after an elderly Dewey woman hadn't answered her door for Meals on Wheels for two days. Deputies arrived to find the home completely locked. Recognizing the danger, they scoured the outside of the home and found an unlocked window to make entry. It was then that they discovered the woman incapacitated inside on the floor, but miraculously still breathing. Their persistence ensured she got the urgent medical attention she needed.
