The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) is investigating a fatal incident involving a pedestrian that occurred on Route 66 during the late evening hours of January 31, 2026.

Around 11:45 p.m., January 31st, YCSO deputies responded to a report of a person lying in the westbound lane of Route 66 near mile marker 136, just west of Seligman. Upon arrival, deputies located a male subject, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The YCSO Criminal Investigations Bureau (CIB) was called to the scene. Preliminary findings suggest the decedent was struck by a vehicle while lying in the roadway. However, the exact cause of death remains under investigation.

YCSO is asking anyone who was traveling on Route 66 near mile marker 136 between 9:00 PM and midnight Saturday night to contact the Sheriff’s Office.
