Stage 1 fire restrictions are now in effect for all unincorporated areas of Yavapai County.

With the hot and dry weather of June, the fire danger all over the county increases exponentially. It doesn’t take much to spark something that could turn into a tragic disaster. Already this spring, we have had reports of wildfires all over the county. Because of a quick and effective response, none of them have gotten out of control. Among the latest was west of Thumb Butte near Prescott on June 6th, and on Highway 89 between Prescott and Chino Valley on June 9th. With the usual great work by first responders (including PFD AND CAFMA) there were no injuries or structures lost in these events.

The fire zones (North, Central, East, and South) include areas such as Prescott, Prescott Valley, Dewey-Humboldt, Mayer, Cordes Junction, Black Canyon City, Congress, North Wickenburg, Peeples Valley, Yarnell, Wilhoit, Cottonwood, Sedona, Camp Verde, and unincorporated areas of Yavapai County.

Prohibited activities include:

*Sale or use of fireworks.

*Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire or campfire, except within a developed recreation site.

*Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle/building, a developed recreation site, or in a cleared outdoor area at least three feet in diameter.

*Operating or using any equipment with an internal or external combustion engine without a spark arresting device properly installed and maintained.

The fire ban will stay in effect until the risk diminishes and the agencies agree to lift the restrictions.
