END OF WATCH/RIDE TO REMEMBER VISITS YCSO TO HONOR SGT RICK LOPEZ
Published on June 14, 2024
A group from Washington state arrived in Prescott on June 7th to honor fallen YCSO Sgt. Rick "R-Lo" Lopez, meeting with members of the Lopez family and YCSO.
"Beyond the Call of Duty - End of Watch Ride to Remember 2022-23" rolled up to the YCSO main office location in downtown Prescott, led by four motorcycles and including a large trailer covered with pictures of the law enforcement personnel lost around the country during that two-year span, including Sgt Lopez. The group, based in Spokane WA, this year will visit nearly 260 agencies in 73 days, covering 22,000 miles of travel to do it.
Members of the group were able to spend time with Sgt. Lopez' wife, Kym, and daughter, Anastasia. They also were given a tour of the Sheriff's Office main hallway, which includes historical displays from the 160-year history of the agency, and which holds displays honoring "R Lo", who was tragically killed while on a call in Cordes Lakes on June 28,2022.
The Spokane group raises money each year, including funds to help the families of fallen law enforcement and to provide necessary equipment, especially to smaller agencies that cannot afford it on their own. One fund-raising event is the raffle of a 2021 Harley Davidson Pan-America motorcycle. Only 3,000 tickets are sold for the Sept. 21st drawing.
