Although wildfire season is year-round, the spring and summer usually are the most critical times. That is magnified this year due to a relatively dry winter and predictions for warmer and drier weather in May and June. At the May 3 Dewey-Humboldt Firewise event, YCSO discovered that less than half of those we spoke with were signed up for emergency notifications.

County residents (and visitors too) can sign up quickly for text message alerts by texting the phrase alertYAVAPAI to 888777. You will get a response asking for your zip code, and after you send that, you will get a reply welcoming you to the Everbridge system. If you want to get other types of alerts (e.g. e mail or for multiple phone numbers), go to the homepage of this website and look under Featured Content for the Everbridge-alertYAVAPAI logo, click on it, and you will be taken to the signup page.

We also need you to register for the Genasys platform at protect.genasys.com. The county is divided into zones, which are used in conjunction with Everbridge alerts in case of emergency or evacuation. Just enter your address on that website, then write down your zone and keep it handy, in case you get a notification. You can also enter the addresses of loved ones and close friends to find out their zones too.

If you have any special instructions or needs, go to smart911.com and register them for first responders to know (e.g. someone is disabled). You can also enter pet information as well.

Please take a few minutes today to make sure you are signed up and check with family and friends to make sure they are too. You never know when you will need to be notified of an emergency in your area.
