Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a Cordes Lakes man on multiple felony charges, including several related to a 2023 fraud case.

Michael Macinnis, 45, was located January 3 after investigators developed probable cause that he was involved in the forgery of documents related to the sale of a vehicle stolen from a Cordes Lakes home in May, 2023. According to deputies, Macinnis was “squatting” at the residence after the homeowner had passed away some months before. Macinnis then allegedly took a 2005 Chevy Tahoe that had belonged to the homeowner and forged documents to make it appear he was the estate’s personal representative. He then sold the vehicle to a Flagstaff resident.

As deputies attempted to arrest him, Macinnis resisted their efforts, including slamming a metal door on a deputy’s wrist. They were finally able to take him into custody and were told he had perhaps swallowed up to 40 fentanyl pills prior to his arrest, and then had purged his stomach of the drugs. Deputies say on the way to jail he was increasingly incoherent and drowsy, was administered NarCan by jail medical staff, and then taken by ambulance to the hospital.

After his release from the hospital, Macinnis was booked on nine felonies, including Aggravated Assault on Law Enforcement and several charges related to the fraud and forgery case.
