DOG KILLS BOBCAT AFTER SEVERAL REPORTED ATTACKS

On Sunday, around 6 pm, Yavapai County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) deputies responded to a report of a bobcat attack near Inscription Canyon in Prescott. The bobcat ran off, leaving a male victim with significant injuries; he was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital.

Early Monday morning, YCSO deputies and animal control officers responded to a second attack involving a woman near Greenbrier Drive off Williamson Valley Road—approximately seven and a half miles from the initial incident. Shortly thereafter, a person walking in a nearby neighborhood reported a third attack. During this encounter, the owner's German Shepherd heroically intervened, successfully fending off and killing the bobcat. The dog sustained injuries and is currently under the care of a veterinarian. A fourth incident involving another neighbor's dog has since been reported to YCSO, though the extent of that encounter is not yet known. If you believe your pet was attacked this weekend in the Williamson Valley area, please report the incident to Game and Fish and seek immediate veterinary treatment.

Because this is extremely rare behavior for bobcats, it is likely the same animal was involved in all four incidents; however, this has not yet been officially confirmed. Please continue to remain vigilant. The three victims sustained cuts and bites and are receiving hospital treatment. This serves as a serious reminder NEVER TO FEED WILDLIFE.
