As school was winding down, YCSO put on a bike safety class for about 200 kids at Mayer Elementary School, complete with Deputy Do Right joining the program. Sgt Darrell McClintock included some awesome video in the presentation, as he instructed the youngsters about how to stay safe while riding their bikes.

He stressed having the proper equipment, starting with a helmet, and showed the students how to start, stop and turn their bicycles, and proper hand signals to use. Sgt McClintock also instructed the students to always wear bright clothing, ride with traffic, and not to ride alone but have an adult or older teen accompany them. First and foremost, he said, always be extra careful to look both ways to make sure traffic is clear before you cross any street.

And kid favorite Deputy Do Right joined in, especially when students were presented with brand new bicycles by the school in a drawing for each grade. Tickets were earned by students based on reading incentives, and the excitement was high as names were drawn. Great job, Wildcats!"
