Following an extensive investigation, a suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with a 2025 fatal fentanyl overdose in Prescott.
In March 2025, an adult male fatally overdosed while caring for his two children at a motel in Prescott. Over the last year, Partners Against Narcotics Trafficking (PANT) detectives rigorously investigated the case and successfully identified the suspected dealer as 33-year-old Kyle Guanell of Mesa. On May 21, 2026, PANT detectives arrested Guanell. He is accused of multiple offenses, including manslaughter, the sale of lethal fentanyl, transportation of narcotic drugs, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
This operation was a strong collaboration that began with the Prescott Police Department's swift response, and YCSO and PANT detectives' investigation and follow-through over the past year, as well as the Yavapai County Attorney’s Office (YCAO).
"Drug dealers will be held accountable for overdose deaths," said Sheriff David Rhodes. "They knowingly sell a deadly drug and should be held responsible. We will tirelessly pursue justice to ensure they face the full weight of the criminal justice system."
